Human Rights Treaty Law

In the U.S., Human Rights law usually comes up in conversations about other countries not conversations about local issues.  Most folks don’t know that Human Rights law applies in the U.S. and provides protections for our communities.

The U.S. Constitution says that treaties apply here after the Senate votes to “ratify” the treaty by a ⅔ vote.  The Senate has voted to ratify three human rights treaties and that means that the government at the federal, state, and local level must enforce them!
