Totalitarianism and the California Corrections System
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (C.D.C.R) has been lambasted for having 172,000 people in cages, more than 700 people on Death Row, and for having more than 100,000 ex-prisoners out on the streets on parole every given year.
California is a garrison state. In the belly of the beast the “bulls” allow six prisoners to die every month because of medical neglect. California prison guards shoot, wound, and kill more prisoners than guards in any other state. Let us also never forget the bizarre spectacle the media provide with the execution of children’s activist Stanley “Tookie” Williams. What is needed is a new radical prison reform movement.
